Cultural and historical The route of the Sun

In this tour you will visit the most important places of the South Valley of Cusco. First point to visit Tipon, Inca ruins at the foot of Pachatusan Mountain, an archaeological center of water worship. Second point of visit Pikillacta, pre-Inca archaeological center, a city where the inhabitants of the Wari Culture lived. Final point of visit the city of Andahuaylillas, where we will visit the Sistine Chapel of the Americas, part of the colonial era in Cusco.  Throughout the tour you will visualize unique landscapes, mountains, snow-capped mountains, lagoons, and villages with a living history of the pre-Inca, Inca and colonial peoples.

Day 1: Cusco - Tipon - Pikillaqta - Anduaylillas - Cusco

We pick you up from your hotel at 9:00 am and we drive in our private van to TIPON located at 3500 m high is said to be a royal garden commissioned by Wiracocha, where we will see the best of Inca hydraulic water work system, agricultural terracing created by the Incas these tall terraces which run up the narrow valley are irrigated by an aqueduct from Pachatusan mountain.

We continue by car to the next place PIKILLAQTA located at 3350 meters high, is the only pre-Inca site in the Cusco area which was built around 700 to 900 years AD by the WARI culture but also there is Inca built known as RUMIQOLQA, from here we can observe the lagoon of Huacarpay them we will continue with our trip to ANDAHUAYLILLAS where we visit the Saint Peter church of Andahuaylillas, considered as the “Sistine chapel of America “ its walls are wide like all the colonial building made of sun-dried bricks of mud (adobe), a church that is home to golden altars, the chapel is simple and unassuming on the outside, but inside you will find paintings from famous “Escuela Cusqueña “.

On the way back to Cusco we have a stop (optional) In Tipon for lunch to taste the typical dish of Cusco region CUY (guinea pig) or the delicious pork chicharrones, finishing the tour around 2:30 pm.

  • or The Partial Tourist Ticket with price $25 valid for 1 day, you can only visit: Regional Historical Museum, Contemporary Art Museum, Folk Art Museum, Koricancha Site Museum, Qosqo Native Art Center, Inca Pachacutec Monument, Tipon  and Pikillacta Archeological site

Temperature

  • Day temperatures vary from 12 -22 degrees Celsius
  • you must always use layering to manage the temperatures well. Night temperatures, (in the coldest season May to Sept) average -2 to -5 degrees Celsius. The 3rd night is warmer average 6 degrees Celsius as it is lower altitude.

Full Tourist Ticket

The Tourist Ticket (Boleto Turistico del Cusco – BTC) This visitors ticket costs $45 and half price for students, and is valid for 10 days. The full Cusco Tourist Ticket ticket allows you entry to 15 tourist places. These sites which are part of the Cusco City tour are Sacsayhuaman, Qenko, Pukapukara and Tambomachay, in addition to visiting the following sites Pisac, Ollantaytambo, Chinchero, Moray, Koricancha Site Museum, Contemporary Art Museum, Folk Art Museum, Regional History Museum, Inca Pachacutec Monument and the places in the South Valley: Tipon and Piquillacta.

Partial Tourist Ticket

Alternatively you can purchase a partial ticket for $20  which allows a one day only visit of just the 4 Archeological sites if you are not planning to visit any of the Sacred Valley sites such as Pisac, Ollantaytambo, Chincheros or a one day only partial ticket to visit the Sacred Valley sites such as Pisac, Ollantaytambo, Chincheros or Moray, Ticket includes entrance to Tipon and Pikillaqta.

Where to buy your Cusco Touristic Ticket?

The Full and Partial tourist ticket cannot be bought or reserved on the internet. You can buy it the same day of your visit. You can purchase it at any of the following addresses in Cusco:

  • Main office, Av. El Sol 103 – Central of Tourist Galleries
  • In all places included in the Tourist Ticket (except for the Museum of Contemporary Art and Monument of Pachacutec).
