Day 1: Cusco - Chinchero, Moray & Salt Mines drop-off in Ollantaytambo - Group service
We will pick you up from your hotel around 6:30 am and travel to Chinchero, a small rustic town with a long tradition of textile weaving. See various textiles woven with traditional Incan techniques, and explore ruins for approximately 40 minutes and 30 minutes with the local Chinchero weavers.
Next, you will visit the Moray agricultural terraces along the hillsides. The Incas built these terraces to grow an abundance of crops on less-than-ideal mountain terrain, and we will spend 30 minutes there.
Right next to this area, at Maras, there are over 4000 salt ponds which were used for a long time by our ancestors. This helped preserve their food for long periods. After learning about Incan agricultural techniques, make your way to Urubamba, the capital of the Sacred Valley of Urubamba where you are treated to a buffet lunch ( 45 minutes approximately). After lunch, make your way to the historical town of Ollantaytambo. At Ollantaytambo, climb over 200 steps to reach the top of the ancient terraced fortress that overlooks the town. This was an important defensive location during Incan times. After visiting Ollantaytambo for 45 minutes, the tour guide drops you off at the train station, the main square in Ollantaytambo.
